The Joshua M. Freeman Valor Awards Highlights Area First Responders

The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce will honor the outstanding police officers, emergency medical service units, and firefighters from Southern Sussex County at the Joshua M. Freeman Valor Awards. On Friday, February 9th, The Den at Bear Trap Dunes in Ocean View will host the luncheon beginning at noon.  Representatives of local towns and public safety organizations, government officials, and Chamber members will gather to recognize honorees from area fire companies, police departments, and emergency medial services for their work in our community.

“The members of the local law enforcement, fire departments and emergency medical services are everyday heroes who make the sacrifice to keep our community safe,” said Lauren Weaver, executive director for the Chamber. “We, as the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, are privileged to organize this event to recognize these extraordinary individuals whose work not only protects our citizens but also ensures the safety of our visitors.”

Local departments put forward a name from their own organizations in recognition of their outstanding service in the past year.  One honoree will receive top honors as the annual Joshua M. Freeman Valor Award winner.  Ten years ago, this event and the signature award were renamed in memory of the late developer and philanthropist, Joshua M. Freeman. The 2018 Joshua M. Valor Awards are presented by The Carl M. Freeman Companies and supported by Banks Wines & Spirits, Coastal Point, Delmarva Power, and NVHomes/Ryan Homes.
