2018 Joshua M. Freeman Valor Awards Winners

On Friday, February 9, 2018, the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce and Carl M. Freeman Companies recognized the outstanding achievements and service of police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical service units from Southern Sussex County at the 2018 Joshua M. Freeman Valor Awards Luncheon.  Hosted by The Den at Bear Trap Dunes, the event recognized 17 service men and women, nominated by their superiors, for their work and achievements throughout the past year.

The Overall Valor Award recognized Officer First Class Nicholas Harrington of the Ocean View Police Department and Deputy First Class Anthony Rhode of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. The two officers worked together in Marchof 2017 to stop a dangerous suspect who fled from Ocean City, MD into Ocean View, DE. Chief McLaughlin of the Ocean View Police Department nominated the officers for the award, stating, “both officers stood firm in the face of danger and their performance throughout this ordeal was exemplary.”

The luncheon, emceed by Susan Monday from Delaware 105.9 News Talk, was well attended by local service men and women, government officials, community members, and Chamber members. Presented by The Carl M. Freeman Companies and the Bethany-Fenwick Area chamber of Commerce, the Joshua M.
