The Gallo Gives Foundation Awards Community Donations

 As part of its ongoing effort to support the community, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty has formed the Gallo Gives Foundation.  2016 3r^dquarter foundation earnings of $8,500.00 were awarded to the following worthy organizations:  Cape Community Fund ($2,000.00), Look Good, Feel Better program for the Cancer Support Community and the SAFE program at People’s Place ($1,250.00);  a portion of earnings ($1,500.00) has been set aside for a college-bound senior scholarship which will be available in the spring of 2017. The balance will be donated to Sussex Habitat for Humanity during the BHHS Gallo Realty Build Day in Ingram Village in Ellendale this month.  Andrew Ratner, VP at BHHS Gallo noted that the organizations chosen this quarter are “extremely well-run, and so beneficial to the well-being of so many people in our community.” 

The purpose of the Cape Community Fund is to assist residents of all ages in the Cape Henlopen School District who have been victim to an accident, illness, fire or other unexpected catastrophe.  The Cape Community Fund has been created to help manage and expedite donation, while affording a tax deduction to generous supporters. The fund provides financial support, up to $1,000 per incident.  For more information, visit www.greaterlewesfoundation.org and click on Cape Community Fund.

Look Good, Feel Better is a non-medical, brand-neutral public service program that teaches beauty techniques to people with cancer to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The program includes lessons on skin and nail care, cosmetics, wigs and turbans, accessories and styling, helping people with cancer to find some normalcy in a life that is by no means normal. This program is available through the Cancer Support Community in Sussex County. For more information, visit www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org.

The SAFE acronym means Shelter, Advocacy, Freedom and Empowerment for local victims and children of domestic violence.  The program provides a 24-hour help hotline, offers safety planning support and also supplies emergency shelters in a safe and supportive environment using the empowering “Sanctuary Model”.  Advocacy and case management services are provided as well. The Gallo Gives Foundation is funded primarily through the company’s agents, management, and staff. Agents are encouraged to donate a percentage of their commissions earned and the firm then matches all agent/staff contributions 100 percent.  In addition, Gallo Realty will produce certain events that will benefit the foundation.  Public donations will be accepted as well. Each Gallo Realty office, in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, and Bethany Beach, is represented by individuals who serve on the foundation’s giving committee. The committee researches community charities in need and recommends funding. The foundation is managed by the Greater Lewes Foundation.
