The Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation (QRCF) and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce (BFACC) are again partnering to host series of events on New Year’s Day 2019: the 8th Annual Hair of the Dog 5k/10k Run and the 23rd Annual Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimos. Run, walk, splash, and plunge into 2019 and ring in the New Year with these fun, family-friendly events. Proceeds benefit the local community by providing grants to local non-profits by providing scholarships to local students.
The 10k and 5k will start off the day, with each race beginning on Parkwood and Atlantic Avenues in downtown Bethany Beach and ending at the Bandstand on the Boardwalk. The 10k starts at 8:45 am and the 5k starts at 10 am. Both races are time chipped by Races2Run, with medals for the 10k finishers, overall awards, and age group awards. All runners are invited to join the post-race party at Mango’s Bethany Beach, to enjoy chili provided by local restaurants.
The Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimo Plunge will take place at noon, followed by a post-party at The Cottage Café with DJ Bump. The celebration will include an awards ceremony recognizing the largest team, the best costume/theme, and the team that raises the most pledges for the Captain William Murray Scholarship. The scholarship honors William Murray, an active community member who was integral in starting the New Year’s plunge event. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student with strong academics and an equally strong passion for community service. Don’t want to plunge alone? Sign up with a team or join the Cottage Café Team when you register at thequietresorts.com.
Local businesses and residents, as well as visitors are encouraged to be part of the fun. Registration is open online at thequietresorts.com. On-site registration and packet pick up will take place on December 31st from 12:00 – 3:00 pm at Mango’s on the Bethany Beach Boardwalk; and again on January 1st beginning at 7:30 am. To learn more, or to register, visit theQuietResorts.com. Portions of the registration fees may be tax-deductible.
