Steve Gonzer presents at Lewes Historical Society’s March 18 Speaker Series, the Holocaust, National Month of Remembrance USHMM: “Why We Must Remember-Seventy One Years Later”

Join speaker Steve Gonzer for a discussion on the Holocaust, National Month of Remembrance USHMM: “Why We Must Remember-Seventy One Years Later,” on Friday, March 18, at 7:30pm at The Saint Peter’s Church Parish Hall at 211 Mulberry Street, Lewes, Delaware. Admission is free and no reservations are required.

This presentation is The Lewes Historical Society’s March “Speaker Series.” Each month between September and May the Society offers educational and entertaining programs that explore the history of Lewes, the surrounding area, Lewes’s unique interaction in the national scene and other related and appealing topics. Presentation Summary:

Mr. Gonzer will show excerpts from his documentary, “No Denying: Delawareans Bear Witness to the Holocaust,” and share his journey during the creation and production of film. The documentary features first-person accounts of Delawareans who were eyewitnesses to genocide. John P. Lee, a former resident of Lewes will appear in one of the excerpts. John, a member of the United States Army was a liberator at Dachau concentration camp.

About the Speaker:

As a documentary film maker, Mr. Gonzer created and produced, “No Denying: Delawareans Bear Witness to the Holocaust,” an eight hour and fifteen minute documentary which includes a forty two page user guide. The documentary features first person accounts of Delawareans who were eyewitnesses to the Holocaust-Survivors, Righteous Gentiles, Rescued Children and Liberators.

A copy of the “No Denying” DVD set is housed in several museums throughout the country, including, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, DC, Jewish Heritage Museum and YIVO Institute for Jewish Studies, in New York. Copies are also housed in all Delaware public middle and high school libraries, private and Parochial schools and public libraries.

Mr. Gonzer was a featured speaker at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference, invited guest speaker at the University of Illinois, The University of Delaware, Jewish Studies Program, and featured speaker at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Conference, Philadelphia.

Mr. Gonzer is a graduate of the University of Delaware. He worked as an educator with at-risk youth and economically disadvantaged adults. He was recognized by former Governor of the State of Delaware, Michael Castle, for outstanding service in developing skills training programs and employment opportunities for the citizens of Delaware and received “Educator of The Year Award” from the Delaware Association of Adult and Community Education.
