On September 26th the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce presented five local art teachers with a check for $500 each, to be used for their art classrooms. The check presentation took place at the Chamber’s Business After Hours Family Night Out, hosted by Lord’s Landscaping in Millville.

Principals and teachers from John M. Clayton Elementary School, Lord Baltimore Elementary School, Phillip C. Showell Elementary School, Southern Delaware School of the Arts, and Selbyville Middle School were present for the check presentation.

The annual Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival features a silent auction which raises money for the art programs in these schools, however, the 40th Anniversary event was canceled due to high winds and thunderstorms. “Even though the Arts Festival did not go as planned, we are glad we are still able to recognize the local art programs at this community event. All Chamber events are rooted in a common goal of community, promotion, and advocacy,” said Chamber executive director, Lauren Weaver.

The Chamber partnered with Lord’s Landscaping and A Sweet Affair Events to create a fun, community atmosphere at Business After Hours – Family Night Out, a seasonal spin on the Chamber’s most popular networking event.

The evening featured local businesses and organizations: Schell Brothers, Mercantile Processing Inc. (MPI), Taste Events, The Frozen Farmer, Tidepool Toys & Games, Shine by The Sea Hair, River Soccer, Craftbox, Tony Dawson Photography, 3 Blonde Bakers, Delaware Provision South, Adkins Produce, and Mariners Bethel United Methodist Church CRASH Ministries – each hosting a different activity for participants to enjoy.

In addition to the check presentation to the schools, the event raised money for many other local organizations. Food vendors donated a portion of their proceeds to the Beebe Medical Foundation for the art therapy program at the Tunnell Cancer Center; MPI accepted donations toward purchasing Smart Pads for the Indian River School District Math departments; and Lord’s Landscaping sold activity passes, with all proceeds going to Mariners Bethel United Methodist Church CRASH Ministries.
