Celebrate The Season On The Holiday House Tour Of Lewes
Join the Lewes Historical Society to celebrate the season at their annual Holiday House Tour of Lewes on Saturday, December 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event will feature ten unique Lewes, Delaware properties adorned for the holidays. Attendees will experience a variety of homes on the tour ranging from a new home filled with charming Americana décor and rich historical elements, to an 1882 home that was originally built as a church and expanded in 1930 to its current modern house design.
The Holiday House Tour of Lewes ticket will provide visitors with a rare occasion to tour a stunning brick Victorian farmhouse located on Savannah Road. The house, a blend of historical elegance and artistic detail, features lavish murals – several of which were painted by a Philadelphia set designer. Not far away, ticketholders will be treated to a tour of a 1950s charming beach house which has evolved into a modern cheerful retreat. On King’s Highway you can experience another late 1800s Victorian treasure transformed into a welcoming space. This historic home blends high style with a welcoming charm and features original built-in bookcases, cozy nooks, creaky floors, and multiple fireplaces along with modern updates. The Holiday House Tour of Lewes will offer guests the opportunity to glimpse inside these private homes of Lewes, decorated uniquely for the season.
The Holiday Tour will also include the circa 1739 Maull House built by local carpenter Samuel Paynter and the opportunity to visit The Lodge at Lewes which will be fully decorated for the season and serving refreshments on the day of the tour.
Tickets for the House Tour are $40 and are likely to sell out before the day of the Tour. Each ticket will provide one-time admission to tour all homes between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. A detailed guidebook with descriptions of each property on the tour will serve as your admission ticket and can be picked up at the Lewes Historical Society prior to the tour.
The Society will be holding its annual Holiday Village & Market in conjunction with the House Tour on their main campus at 110 Shipcarpenter Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, with limited preview hours on First Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The property will host a variety of local farmers and food specialty vendors including Four Acres Living who will be bringing several of their alpacas to greet you for the occasion. You’ll also find local honey, freshly baked gourmet goods, olive oils, local jams and jellies, nut brittles, fresh oysters and more. A dozen local artisans will also be selling unique holiday gifts including candles, ceramics, woodcrafts, glass, photography, paintings, textiles, jewelry and holiday ornaments. LHS’s traditional greenery and holiday decorations sale will be held in the barn on Saturday only. The Holiday Village & Market is free to the public and will offer guests a chance to see the collection of historic buildings on the property for free, and to mingle with historic interpreters and carolers.
