Lewes Historical Society presents “Brotherhood & Determination: 100 Years of Beebe Healthcare”
Lewes, Delaware – Join speaker Jeffrey M. Fried, Beebe Healthcare President & CEO, for a discussion of “Brotherhood & Determination: 100 Years of Beebe Healthcare,” on Friday, May 20. At 6:00PM, enjoy the opening of an exhibit, which will celebrate the history and legacy of Beebe Heathcare. At 7:00PM, speaker Jeffrey M. Fried will present. The exhibit and presentation will be held at The Lewes Historical Society’s main campus, located at 110 Shipcarpenter Street, Lewes. In the case of in climate weather, the presentation will be held at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 211 Mulberry Street, Lewes.
The exhibit in the Ellegood House at The Lewes Historical Society’s main campus will be available through October 3, 2016, and will be open Monday- Friday 10:00AM-4:00PM. It demonstrates the medical history of Lewes, both before and after Beebe Heathcare. Patrons will learn about contributing personalities, medical equipment, and what it took for the Beebe brothers to begin their legacy. Items in the exhibit consist of items from both private collections and from Beebe, including textiles such as Richard Beebe’s WWI uniform, medical school graduation gowns, a “Gray Lady” uniform from WWII, and nurses’ uniforms from throughout the years. Also included is a powder horn from 1716, used by Peter Marsh, an early physician in Lewes.
On Friday, May 20, Jeffrey M. Fried, Beebe Healthcare President & CEO, will introduce the exhibit, while telling of the history and future of Beebe Heathcare. According to Beebe Healthcare, the facility was “founded in 1916, as a not-for-profit community medical center governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. Beebe has become the premier healthcare facility in Sussex County, serving a thriving beach and vacation resort area and a growing year-round population. Beebe provides comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and home care in medical-surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, oncology, and critical-care medicine. Outpatient services include an Outpatient Surgical Center, Diagnostic Imaging Centers, and Rehabilitation. Beebe Healthcare serves as a teaching facility for many regional allied health and professional education programs. Clinical practicums/experiences are available in all continuums of care. Beebe Healthcare is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.”
