8 Ways to Ring in Spring in the Quiet Resorts

Spring has sprung and warmer weather is (hopefully) knocking on the door. The Quiet Resorts are beautiful in all seasons, but the spring just might be the best. There are plenty of events happening this spring to get you out of the house and help you shake off those winter blues. If you are anxious to get outside and soak up some vitamin D, enjoy some events on the list below before the summer crowds roll into town.

1. Say “Cheers!” to Spring

Nothing says spring quite like a day at a winery. Enjoy fresh air, nice weather, and of course, some vino, when you pay a visit to a local vineyard or winery. Salted Vines Vineyard and Winery in Frankford hosts a number of events to make your visit more fun. From retiree happy hours and weekly flight nights, to weekend “sweat and sip” events, they offer plenty of opportunities for a fun outing with friends. Visit their website for event dates and details.

2. Shape Up!

Drag your bike out of the garage and dust off the seat – cycling season is back! Take a ride through the Quiet Resorts and enjoy the scenery. Start getting in shape now, because before you know it, it will be time to ride the beaches, bays, and beyond in the 29th Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour.

3. Obligatory Spring Cleaning

It happens every year, you spend the winter months stuck inside, staring at a bunch of stuff in your house that you don’t want. Do some spring-cleaning and finally get rid the junk you haven’t used in years! The Delaware Solid Waste Authority is hosting a number of household hazardous waste and electronic goods collection events this spring; now is the perfect time to clean out your home and dispose of items properly.

4. Good Brews and Beach Views

Enjoy a brew and an ocean view at Bethany Beach Ocean Suites during the Shore Craft Beer Fest, Beer at the Beach, on March 24th. Spend the day sampling unlimited tastings from local breweries, while listening to live music and delighting in fresh, local food.

5. Hunt for Easter Eggs

People all over the country will spend early spring searching for eggs laid by a bunny – and the Quiet Resorts are no exception! Head to Selbyville to participate in the 4th Annual Community Egg Hunt and search for over 8,000 eggs on March 24th. Take a photo with Thumper, bounce like a bunny in the bounce house, and enjoy refreshments with family and friends.

6. Warm up Your Green Thumb!

Grab your gardening gloves and spend some time volunteering with one of the many local organizations that strives to make this area as beautiful as possible! The Delaware Botanic Gardens hope to begin planting 30,000 herbaceous perennials and grasses in their Meadow Garden this April. Visit their website for information on volunteer opportunities and lend a hand in bringing the amazing 37-acre garden to life. In addition, the Delaware Center for Inland Bays regularly hosts planting days in the area as well as opportunities to clean up the bay. And don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Annual Native Plant Sale on May 5th.

7. Ditch the Treadmill

The sun is shining; the air is warm – forget the treadmill and go for a run (or walk) outside! Get those legs movin’ and groovin’ before the Bunny Palooza 5k & 10k Run/Walk on March 31st.

8. Visit the State Parks

Enjoy all that Delaware State Parks have to offer! Prepare for surf fishing season with an introduction to surf fishing class and a beach-driving clinic, offered on various dates in March and April, or sign up for a group hike to learn about what you see along the trail as you go. Hikes are offered on various dates in different parks. Visit www.destateparks.com for details! (PS – annual Delaware State Park parking passes can be purchased at the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce Office and Information Center!)
