50th Anniversary Beach Celebration & 37th Annual Sandcastle Contest at Delaware Seashore State Park

Dewey Beach, DE – For 37 years, Delaware Seashore State Park has been holding the annual Sandcastle Contest and it has become one of the park’s legacies! Family-friendly, and free to enter, this event draws participants and spectators from all over. This year marks not only the 37th annual contest, but it also marks Delaware Seashore State Park’s 50th anniversary.  To celebrate, park staff will be expanding the sandcastle contest beyond sandcastle construction and judging.  There will be hands-on, beach-themed activities for kids, an on-going sandcastle building demonstration by a professional sand sculptor, and a live-action demonstration by state park lifeguards – all alongside the competition area. In addition, an extensive park history exhibit will be on display that walks through the last 100+ years, through a collection of old maps, photos, and other park archives.

The Beach Celebration and Sandcastle Contest will take place at the South Inlet Day Area beach, right near the bathhouse on Saturday, July 8.  The event kicks off at 9:30 a.m., as well as contestant registration. Judging begins at 1 p.m. and prizes will be awarded shortly thereafter.

There is no need to pre-register for this event.  For more information on other 50th anniversary events, please visit destateparks.com/dssp50th.  For more information about other park programs, please visit destateparks.com or call the Indian River Life-Saving Station at (302) 227-6991.
