U.S. Lighthouse Society’s Passport Stamps for Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse and the Lewes Life-Saving Station are Available at The Lewes Historical Society

Lewes, Delaware- September 6, 2016- The Lewes Historical Society is excited to now offer passports and stamps for the U.S. Lighthouse Society’s Passport Program.  Lighthouse Passports are available at The Lewes Historical Society’s Zwaanendael Club Museum Store for $15.00.  The Lewes Historical Society stamp locations for Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse and the Lewes Life-Saving Station include the Cannonball House Maritime Museum at 118 Front Street, Ryves Holt House at 218 Second Street, and the Zwannendael Club Museum Store at 302 Savannah Road, all located in Lewes, Delaware.

Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse was built in the 1880s and is located in the Delaware Bay off of Bowers Beach.  It is the only bay light in Delaware.  The Fresnel Lens from Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse can be found at The Lewes Historical Society’s Cannonball House Maritime Museum.  It is on loan from the U.S. Coast Guard and has been at the Cannonball House since the year 2000.  Tour the Cannonball House Maritime Museum 7 days a week from 11am-4pm through the end of September or Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12pm-3pm October through December 3.  Admission is $5 per person, or free for Lewes Historical Society members, students with ID cards, and children under 12.

The Lewes Life-Saving Station is owned by The Lewes Historical Society and is located on the canal front, at the intersection of Pilottown Road and Shipcarpenter Streets in historic Lewes, Delaware.  It is best known for its heroic surfmen’s actions during the great Blizzard of 1888. The third station commissioned in Delaware, the Lewes Life-Saving Station exhibits the tools and boats used by the surfmen to rescue the victims of shipwrecks up and down the coast. See the interior of the Lewes Life-Saving Station during The Lewes Historical Society’s Maritime Tours.  In September and October, Maritime Tours are offered at 1:00pm on Mondays and Saturdays. This tour is $10 per person, or free for Lewes Historical Society members, students with ID cards, and children under 12.  Tour tickets can be purchased at the Ryves Holt House, the Zwaanendael Club Museum Store, or by calling 302-645-7670.
