U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Honors Delmarva Power Utility Recognized as 2016 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 6, 2016) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Delmarva Power with a 2016 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Energy Efficiency Program Delivery Award for its outstanding efforts to increase Maryland customers’ use of energy-efficient products. Delmarva Power’s accomplishments will be recognized during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 13.

This is the second time Delmarva Power will be honored for its portfolio of energy efficiency programs that are designed to support the EmPOWER Maryland initiative to reduce energy consumption in the state.

Residential programs include a lighting program that offers instant in-store discounts on select ENERGY STAR certified compact fluorescent and LED bulbs and lighting fixtures at participating retailers. During 2015, Delmarva Power customers purchased over 448,000 discounted lighting products, contributing to a total of over 2.3 million sold since the program’s inception.

Rebates are offered for purchasing ENERGY STAR certified appliances. Delmarva Power paid more than 900 rebates to Maryland customers in 2015 for the purchase of energy efficient appliances and has paid approximately 15,600 rebates since the program began in 2009. The value of the rebates ranges from $50 to $500.

Other rebate opportunities occur through construction of new homes that are ENERGY STAR certified or by upgrading to a high-efficiency cooling or heating system (central air conditioner or heat pump) with installation by a participating contractor.

In addition, customers can learn how to be more energy-efficient by scheduling either comprehensive home energy or no-cost, quick home energy assessments that also include energy-saving products installed during the home appointments.

Delmarva Power also offers energy efficiency programs for commercial and industrial customers.

“We truly value our partnership with ENERGY STAR,” said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power region president. “It’s exciting to see the impact we’ve made through our energy efficiency programs while supporting the EmPOWER Maryland goal of reducing energy consumption in the state.”

“We remain committed to continuing our work to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment,” added Stockbridge.

Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than 2.4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

“As a leader in ENERGY STAR program implementation, Delmarva Power is helping transform the energy efficiency market,” said EPA administrator Gina McCarthy. “Using ENERGY STAR resources, Delmarva Power is expanding access to energy-saving practices to grow the economy and protect the environment.”
